1. At the office

Macula Risk testing must be ordered by a licensed eye-care professional. Patients should have an eye examination and a diagnosis of AMD. A cheek sample is collected and the 1 page Test Requisition Form (TRF) is filled in.

2. Shipment

The sample package, with insurance information and filled-in TRF is put inside the prepaid envelope. FedEx will collect test samples with 1 phone call. Samples should be sent at least weekly. The testing lab is CAP & CLIA certified and audited.

3. Results

The doctor will receive the patient report within 2 weeks of sample receipt at the testing laboratory. The report includes the Macula Risk test result as well as patient genetic counseling support. There are full-time certified genetic counselors available as required. The doctor then discusses the results along with a treatment plan at the next visit.
